Dear centre members,
Around fifteen years ago Alan and I purchased a second-hand Lynton caravan from a friend in
Southport, towed it back to Plymouth, only to discover it was too big to go through the gateway to our drive. Fortunately our neighbour came to the rescue and allowed us to put the caravan on their
driveway. This was our very first experience with a caravan and who would have thought it would lead me to being the Centre Chairlady.
I am very proud to have been elected Chairlady and trust I, along with Alan’s support, will be able to serve the Centre and the membership honourably during the coming year. I will try to preserve the traditions of the Centre whilst still moving the centre into the 21st century and with your support the Centre can continue to flourish.
I must thank the retiring committee for all their hard
work and welcome those that were successfully re-elected and along with the two new members. I look forward to working with you all. I must congratulate Tom Hannaford on becoming Junior Chairman and look forward to working with
him and his committee. I wish them a very successful year, especially with raising funds for their charity, Children’s Hospice, South West. Now to my Charities, the Air Ambulances, one in Devon and one in Cornwall. I have always had a soft spot for the Ambulance Services, as both my parents worked within the service during the 1950s.
Unfortunately Alan and I have had the Air Ambulance attend incidents, one being a car accident in August 1995 and more recently, a farming accident, which involved my step-daughter’s partner.
I am truly indebted to the many people who have offered to support me, and in turn the Devon & Cornwall Centre, with offers of help and financial
sponsorship during the coming year. Thank you one and all.
The coming year will hold it’s challenges for the Centre, especially in the present economic climate, for both those attending rallies and the Stewards organising. However, Alan and I look forward to
meeting you on the rally field at some point and thank you for your continuing support.
