Chairman
Mr Alan Parkinson
When Ann and I joined the Caravan Club some 33 years ago, I did not envisage becoming the Centre Chairman. I am proud and honoured to hold this position, and I will do my very best to carry on with the fine standards that have been set by our Past Chairperson’s and Committees and also to do what is best for our Centre and our Members. Thanks must go to our outgoing Chairman Derek and his wife Susan, thank you for your hard work.
Our first rally was the Bicton Holiday Rally in 1979; where we met many new friends and who we are still rallying with today. Since we have been in the Centre one of our son’s Ian held the position of Junior Chairman in 1983, and our daughter Claire also served on the Junior Committee. Hopefully Ann and I have many more years of caravanning and the chance to meet old and new friends.
In my Chairman’s year we have the National Rally at Weston Park and the Wessex at Frome, hopefully our Centre will do well at both rallies and we come home with the cups. Thank you, and good luck to everyone who is going to take part in both rallies. I am looking forward to working with our new Committee and also the Junior Chairman, Adam Holmwood and his Committee. In my Vice Chairman’s year I was the Juniors President, what an honour that was. I would like to thank the outgoing Junior Chairperson, Savannah King and her Committee for making it an enjoyable year for me. Our Junior’s are a credit to this Centre and hopefully they will move on to the Senior Committee in years to come.
The reason Ann and I have chosen the NSPCC for the Centre’s Charity is because it has been close to our hearts for a number of years. You see and hear of the atrocities that some children suffer and if we can ease the suf fering and abuse to only a few children then it will be worth while. I hope that you will support the Centre Charity and to help ease the pain and suffering of these unlucky children. The NSPCC have informed Ann and I that any monies raised will only be used in the Devon and Cornwall area. Please sponsor those members who will be doing the Chairman’s Challenge this year, which is canoeing the length of the Tamar River. If you would like to take part in this, please contact me for details. Thank you.
Ann and I look forward to seeing you on the Rally Field in 2010.
