Clovelly - Again

22nd July-25th July

We arrived on a beautiful Friday afternoon, sadly having had to work and missed the first day in this idyllic retreat, nestled in the glorious North Devon countryside.

Clovelly is a privately owned village, having been in the same family since 1738, it is perched on the side of a 400ft cliff with the Atlantic ocean at its feet. The village itself is unspoiled with no motor traffic and no modern day hussle and bussel !I

Now i`ve been to this rally quite a few times as a child with my parents and more recently with my own family, and I always think that there is something magical about the place.

Now the pitch ( and it is a pitch) is perfectly flat and level so no block's required at all and this year we where treated to a field of fresh mushroom for breakfast each morning........ YUM YUM !!!!!

Sadly we missed Thursday where the Parish council ( who own the football ground where we were camped) had put on a sausage sizzle for the locals and we were all invited !!

Friday again the parish council had done all the work with thier clubhouse open, good beer on tap and they also provided Bingo, Now you all know about me and Bingo so for once in my life I decided to not par take ............

Saturday we took the short but steep walk down the lovely cobbled streets that make up Clovelly, so that's Up And Along Street, Fish Street etc...........

Once we reached the bottom we strolled gently across the beach of pebbles so my wife could for the first time stand and marvel at the natural waterfall which cascaded down over the cliff into the sea..

A quick meander back across the beach found us in the famous harbour, which was only partly open as part of it was closed for a wedding, ( wow what a place to get married !!!!)

Nesstled on the harbour is the Red Lion Hotel, now I was always brought up not to be rude so, offerd my wife some refreshment after our walk, a pint of ale and wonder around the sung bar full of pictures of Clovelly men past and present had us set for our climb back up the village.....

Thankfuly halfway up is the only other pub in the village ........

Saturday night saw the sea mist roll in just as we started flag pole, but hey it meant I didn`t need to say much............

Sunday started off bad with so much mist you couldn't even see the other end of the football pitch !!!!

This soon cleared and in the afternnon the parish council once again treated us to some more enterainment, with there "One day in Summer" summer fair, with stalls and games for all the family.........

So an idyllic place, good weather (for the most part), friends and family, good memories.

A PERFECT weekend, Thank you all !!!
