Cambrose Fun & Games
29th April-3rd May
Looking at the weather forecast for this weekend didn`t inspire much confidence in a weekend in Cornwall, But as this was set to be my First Role as Flag officer for the Year, we set off Friday afternoon with hope in our hearts(that the weather forecast was wrong) and a smile on our faces ( well we`ve been away in every type of weather possible, even snow so a bit of rain was notgoing to hurt us.)
Just outside the small and beautiful cornish village of Portreath lies a small and nicely tucked away holiday park, Cambrose Touring park, this was to be our base for the long weekend.....
We arrived even though we were a bit late due to that horrible four letter word W.O.R.K. but were greeted by by our ever helpful and entertaining stewards Matt, Paula, kids, Derek, Sue ..........................and Charlie Dug (sic). who even as we arrived were busy pulling out a motorhome stuck in the mud.
Friday Night we were treated to that ever popular game BINGO and ohno, once again i failed to win a penny the bingo was followed by a night of cider and nibbles and what was meant to be an easy picture quiz ( i must watch more telly !!!)... My cider glass did appear to have a leak in so much so that it constantly was being topped up.....
Saturday the clouds cleared and the sun shone for a while.... We joined the organised walk into Protreath led by Matt and it amazed me just how much you can miss when your driving past....
A wonder around and we set off back to the site with the promise of a Pasty Lunch, Derek had slipped off down to Philips bakery in Hayle and returned we the largest and tastiest pastie i`ve ever had....
Now just in case i`d sobered up from the small amount of cider i`d had on Friday Saturday evening .... Cheese and Wine.... Thankfully this time around i`d agreed to provide a disco later in the evening so i needed to be fairly ok ish..... Another evil quiz followed ( not as clever as i thought i was ) and then a disco......
Now just in case your thinking that these people have done millions already i can hand on heart say they worked there socks off !!!!
Now me and Shell popped out for a bit of retail therapy, because apprently she been asked to take part in the Sunday evening entertainment and hadnot got anything to wear.... ummm not heard that one before.... we drove the few miles over to Poole market and then on into Penzance ... Happily wasting the morning strolling about and stoppping for coffee to watch the world go by.... Very Happily we failed to buy anything......
On our return we we were greeted with a traditional cream tea, now that's Jam and then Cream......or is it...... Cream then Jam......
Well on to the Sunday evening...... Words can't sum this one up, you just needed to be there.... The centres very own Derek Batley took centre stage to host the ever popular quiz show MR & MRS, A big thanks goes out to the victims ( opps sorry willing volunteers) Brain and Marylin Skinner, Dave and Becky Tucker and David and Tracey Hough.. without these great sports the night wouldn`t have been so much fun......
To sum up.... The sun was shining and the rally was great.... Hopefully i`ll be back down to Porthreath next year..............
